Color Throwdown #504 - Hello Beautiful

Hello Lovely.  I'm squeezing in a Saturday post because there are so many challenges I wanted to play along with in the coming week.  Today's card is part of The Color Throwdown Challenge.  I'm really enjoying participating in The Color Throwdown Challenges.  They push me out of my color comfort zone.  This week I was almost giddy about the colors because this was going to be a real challenge.  Let's talk about the card and the colors.

The colors for Color Throwdown #504 were - copper, black and white.  If you would like to learn more about the Color Throwdown you should check out their blog.  New colors are posted every week.

Let me start by saying this card was definitely a challenge because I love bright colors and there were none on this card. Ok.  So now that I've said that, let's talk about the making of this beauty. 

I decided to do some stencil masking to create this card.  I started with a butterfly mask that I cut using the retired Murana Butterfly die from Memory Box.  I layered it onto a white cardstock panel, then taped it to the retired Tiny Dots stencil from Echo Park.  You know what comes next, my favorite part, the ink blending. 

I went over the entire stencil with Distress Ink in Black Soot.  I removed the stencil and blended an ombre effect with Distress Inks in Black Soot, Hickory Smoke, and Picket Fence.  I stamped the sentiment "Hello Beautiful", from the Simon Say Stamp Hello Beautiful set, in VeraMark ink and then covered it with WOW Embossing Powder in Metalic Cooper.  I die cut the panel with my favorite Simon Says Stitched Rectangle die.

To create the copper mat for the die cut panel I used a technique I learned from Jennifer McGuire.  I coated the edges of a white cardstock panel with VersaMark ink by smooshing the ink pad onto the paper.  Next, I shook on the copper embossing powder and hit it with the heat gun.  I repeated these steps to get a nice coat of copper.  I completed the card by laying the patterned panel onto the copper mat and adhered it to a white card base.
